PROTECT OR LOSE

An A E London Original

I've held a baby orangutan while in Borneo- it's easy to feel the love and need from them- and to understand why the mothers often give up their own lives defending them against the palm oil plantation guards.

My classical training as an artist came out in this one- madonna and child, how many times did I study the masters and their use of composition and line. Line quality, edge control, tonal balance- I stand on the shoulders of some of the greats.  I made this portrait using a prior sketch made in Borneo, but after returning from Amsterdam where I stood in front of Ver Meers, Rembrandts, Van Goghs, Corots and others.  Safe to say that the visit inspired me here.

Dimensions: 20" x 20" On canvas $ 1426.

As we hiked through the lowland swamps of Borneo, I realized why these incredible creatures were built as they are- for comfort and safety in the trees

With little dry ground, they spend their lives in the trees. Each night they make a nest of leaves to sleep and nurse their young
